Champions for Cultural Diversity Awards 2019

A company that is leveraging immigrant talent?

An employer committed to better including immigrants in the workplace?

An individual who demonstrates leadership in including immigrants in the workforce?

A youth leading change in New Brunswick?

An newcomer entrepreneur bringing new services to the province?

An international student making an impact on their campus?

The New Brunswick Multicultural Council will be holding a provincial event to recognize New Brunswick employers for their best practices in the areas of diversity, inclusion and integration of newcomers as well as newcomer contributions into the NB labour market. In order to reflect the tremendous linguistic and geographic diversity of New Brunswick employers, two categories of awards, Anglophone and Francophone, will be presented. The awards are as follows:

New Brunswick Large Business Champion for Cultural Diversity

This award will recognize a large organization with significant contributions to newcomer employment in the province of New Brunswick.
It is to be presented to an employer that has:

  • championed inclusive hiring practices;
  • shown a commitment to diversity and equality in providing access to advancement and professional development opportunities;
  • significantly helped newcomer employees adjust to the Canadian workplace;
  • promoted and celebrated cultural diversity in the workplace and community;
  • total staff size of 50 or more employees.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizations that leveraged immigrants’ connections to local and/or international markets to expand their business;
  • Organizations that have established onboarding practice where immigrants are better integrated to the workplace.

New Brunswick Small/Medium Business Champion for Cultural Diversity

This award will recognize a small or medium organization with significant contributions to newcomer employment in the province of New Brunswick.

It is to be presented to an employer that has:

  • championed inclusive hiring practices;
  • shown a commitment to diversity and equality in providing access to advancement and professional development opportunities;
  • significantly helped newcomer employees adjust to the Canadian workplace;
  • promoted and celebrated cultural diversity in the workplace and community;
  • a total staff size of less than 50 employees.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizations that have recruitment practices that include immigrants
  • Organizations that have that have leveraged immigrants’ knowledge to create more innovative products/services or new line of business

New Brunswick Individual Champion for Cultural Diversity

This award will recognize a person with significant contributions to newcomer first work experience in the province of New Brunswick.

It is to be presented to an individual who has:

  • mentored newcomers;
  • significantly helped newcomer employees adjust to the Canadian workplace;
  • promoted and celebrated cultural diversity in the workplace and community.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • Someone who has coached and trained newcomers on mock interviews
  • Someone who is a mentor for immigrants in a workplace

New Brunswick Immigrant Entrepreneur Champion

This award will recognize an immigrant employer or employee who has contributed to the success and uplifting of the New Brunswick economy through their business or professional engagements.

It is to be presented to an individual who has:

  • brought new perspective and ingenuity to their place of business;
  • run his/her own business or been a leader in his/her place of work;
  • promotes inclusion and cultural diversity in the workplace and community.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • Immigrant entrepreneurs who brought new services and innovation to the community
  • Newcomer employee who is team leader in his/her place of profession

New Brunswick Immigrant Youth Champion

This award will recognize an immigrant youth who demonstrates outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial qualities in his/her community, school and/or place of work.

It is to be presented to an individual who is:

  • between the ages of 15-25 years old;
  • passionately involved in his/her community and supports his/her peers;
  • promotes and celebrates the contributions of youth and cultural diversity in his/her community.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • High school students involved in leading cultural awareness campaigns in school
  • Recent graduate actively engaged in community associations, sports or politics

New Brunswick International Student Champion

This award will recognize an international student who demonstrates outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial qualities in his/her community, college or university and/or place of work.

It is to be presented to an individual who is:

  • attending one of NB’s public or private post-secondary institutions
  • passionately involved in his/her community and supports his/her peers;
  • promotes and celebrates the contributions of international students and cultural diversity in his/her community.

Examples of potential winners include, but are not limited to:

  • University or college students involved in leading cultural awareness campaigns on their campus
  • Recent graduate actively engaged in community associations, business, municipal politics, etc.

Nomination and Award process

  1. Nomination deadline: July 26, 2019
  2. The award winners will be notified by the Selection Committee by letter and/or phone.
  3. The award will be presented at our Champion for Cultural Diversity award ceremony.
  4. All Nominees will be notified of their nomination and will be personally invited to attend the ceremony by the Committee.
