Schools
Kindergarten, Primary School (grades 1-5), Middle School (grades 6-8) and High School (grades 9-12) are free in the Anglophone and Francophone New Brunswick public school systems. New Brunswick also provides French Immersion programs in the Anglophone schools starting in Grade 3 or Grade 6. Some NBMC member associations offer free homework assistance and Internet access for students. (Link). Health Care
The Canadian Medicare system provides universal health care, so most doctor consultations and hospital services in New Brunswick are free for residents. The costs for dental and eye care are not covered under Medicare, but private health insurance is available and many employers offer additional health benefits. New Brunswickers also have access to a Tele-Care program where they telephone a Registered Nurse at 1-800-244-8353 for free health care information in French or English.
Banking
Banking in person or online is easy in New Brunswick. National and international banks offer financial services throughout the province, including such programs as Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs for retirement income), Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs for education savings), and Federal Savings Plans. Personal and business loans are also available once you qualify. Many private financial groups have branches throughout the province that offer professional advice and services.
Housing and settlement
Housing in New Brunswick, both renting and purchasing, is more affordable than in many other parts of Canada. Some government programs are available to assist lower income families with housing. You can also use the Internet to see listings of houses for sale by visiting www.mls.ca.

Youth
Our settlement groups have activities and programs from summer camps to special workshops for school-age newcomers to New Brunswick. Younger children and teens will enjoy discovering their new country and culture as they take part in field trips, homework and music clubs, parties, and festivals. Youth are also encouraged to enter provincial and national science fairs, art exhibits, and public speaking competitions.
NBMC also provides an online “Youth Forum” www.nb-mc.net/cgi-bin/MessageBoard/YaBB.pl for young newcomers to share their experiences.
Communications & Media
New Brunswick is connected to the world through modern Internet and telephone technology. You can communicate with family members and others around the world from the comfort of your own home. You can also use one of the many free wireless locations or computer Access Centres in public buildings and libraries around the province. In addition, many service businesses, such as cafés, have free wireless Internet access for people with their own laptop computers.
