NB Employment Language Training (NBELT)

The New Brunswick Employment Language Training Program is specifically designed to address the key determinants of successful newcomer integration into the New Brunswick Labour Market. The NBELT Program offers Employment Language Training (ELT), information technology training/upgrading, Canadian labour market orientation, and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) / e-Portfolio development with employment preparation assistance and follow-up. The program assists internationally trained newcomers to  transfer their knowledge, skills and expertise to the Canadian workplace experience. PLA processes are used to help them meet the requirements of labour market integration, occupational or professional certification and/or upgrading education/training programs.

The PLA e-Portfolio development curriculum provides the core component of the NBELT program and focuses on guiding participants through eight related modules. Each module demonstrates a key step in the sequential process of building a multipurpose e-Portfolio, including intercultural communication, skills blueprint, validating education and experience, learning outcomes, goals and action planning, etc. PLA e-Portfolio Development, in combination with self-directed, online, modular learning activities, community networking and work placement experiences, represents a unique & innovative approach to providing a labour market gateway for internationally trained newcomers, facilitating their integration and retention.
