Employment Success for Immigrants

The New Brunswick Multicultural Council (NBMC) is coordinating an employment-based immigrant mentoring initiative, MentorLink, in partnership with Maytree/ALLIES and our ethno-cultural and immigrant-serving member organizations across the province.

The MentorLink program is designed to assist internationally-trained immigrants to successfully navigate the Canadian labour market. Each immigrant ‘mentee’ will be matched in a 4-month one-on-one mentoring relationship with a Canadian professional ‘mentor’ who will provide access to professional networks, local knowledge, as well as, improving cross-cultural relationships.

NBMC Mentorlink Program is being piloted in Saint John with the first training and orientation sessions held in March 2012. The first group of mentees recruited from Saint John Multicultural Resource Centre (SJMNRC) and Saint John YM-YWCA Settlement Services have been matched with mentors from the local business and community organizations.

In consultation with our Advisory Committee, the program will be strategically expanded to another community in New Brunswick for 2012-2013.
